60 Hz Generator Rental in the UAE & GCC
The UAE grid runs at 50 Hz, but some imported marine, industrial and construction equipment operates at 60 Hz. The required frequency comes from the connected equipment nameplate and the project electrical system. Every SINTAQA 1,250 kVA module can be set to 60 Hz before it leaves the yard.

- Synchronised 60 Hz plants
- Multi-MW
Does SINTAQA supply 60 Hz generators?
Yes. Every unit in the SINTAQA rental fleet is a new 1,250 kVA generator that can be set to 50 Hz or 60 Hz at mobilisation, with the voltage and protection settings changed to match. The same fleet serves UAE onshore sites at 50 Hz and marine or imported equipment at 60 Hz.
Reference: two 1,250 kVA generators set to 60 Hz power a barge for NMDC Energy at Hudayriat Island, Abu Dhabi, while the shore side runs at 50 Hz.
Where is 60 Hz needed in a 50 Hz country?
Wherever the connected equipment is rated for 60 Hz. The required frequency is determined by the equipment nameplate and the project electrical system, not by the country the site is in or where the equipment was built. Typical cases are some vessels and barges, imported packages and plant with 60 Hz motors, and equipment moving between Saudi Arabia and the rest of the GCC.
| Country | Grid frequency |
|---|---|
| United Arab Emirates | 50 Hz |
| Oman | 50 Hz |
| Kuwait | 50 Hz |
| Qatar | 50 Hz |
| Bahrain | 50 Hz |
| Saudi Arabia | 60 Hz |
Does a generator's output change at 60 Hz?
Usually yes. At 60 Hz the engine turns faster (1,800 rpm instead of 1,500 rpm for a 4-pole alternator), so the same unit normally carries a different rating than at 50 Hz, and the voltage is set differently, often 440–480 V, or 380 V for Saudi-standard equipment. We confirm the 60 Hz rating and voltage for each project.
| Setting | 50 Hz site | 60 Hz site |
|---|---|---|
| Engine speed (4-pole) | 1,500 rpm | 1,800 rpm |
| Typical LV voltage | 400–415 V | 440–480 V (380 V Saudi-standard) |
| Transformer | 50 Hz rated | Must be rated for 60 Hz |
| Protection settings | Set for 50 Hz | Re-set and tested for 60 Hz |
Can a 60 Hz plant be multi-megawatt?
Yes. Modules set to 60 Hz synchronise on a common bus exactly like a 50 Hz plant, with standby modules for N+1 and step-up transformers rated for 60 Hz where the load is fed at MV.
60 Hz generator rental: FAQ
Does SINTAQA provide 60 Hz generators in the UAE?
Yes. Every unit in the rental fleet is a new 1,250 kVA generator that can be set to 50 Hz or 60 Hz at mobilisation. Two units currently run at 60 Hz on a barge for NMDC Energy at Hudayriat Island, Abu Dhabi.
Can a 50 Hz generator run at 60 Hz?
Many can, if the engine, governor and alternator are designed for both speeds. A 4-pole alternator gives 50 Hz at 1,500 rpm and 60 Hz at 1,800 rpm. Voltage and protection settings must be changed together with the frequency, and the output must be checked at the 60 Hz rating.
Can one site have both 50 Hz and 60 Hz loads?
Yes. The usual options are two separate generator groups, one at each frequency, or a static frequency converter. The choice depends on the size of each load and whether they must share a supply.
Can 60 Hz generators run in parallel?
Yes. All modules in a synchronised plant run at the same frequency, so a 60 Hz plant is built the same way as a 50 Hz one: modules synchronise on a common bus and share load, with standby units for N+1.
